A fused glass and brushed aluminum sculpture, “La Donna Splendente,” (“Woman Resplendent”) curls and rises upward to express the power and beauty of woman, as if rising from the sea. Seven brilliantly colored glass fusions, abstract renditions of woman and nature, are raised above cut-out shapes in the aluminum. More than five feet tall, she stands, poised and strong, on a three foot base. Created in America and Italy, the sculpture travels in the many-sited sculptural exhibition, “Polena Proibida”—all sculptures responding freely to the traditional figurehead, often a bold woman, on the prows of sailing ships. Its showings include such major European venues as Venice and Genova (during the annual Antique Regatta), Valencia, Spain (during the America's Cup races) and other maritime events to be arranged on a continuing basis.
